We are learning about fruit again… But this time it’s not connected to our ‘keeping healthy’ science topic. If you have walked past the year 5 classroom over the last few days you may have heard some fantastic performances of the poem ‘fruits’ by Valerie Bloom. After having some fun performing the poem as a group, we delved deeper into the features of the poem. We learnt that Valerie Bloom uses rhyming couplets and discovered that some words are spelt phonetically. Our task for this week is create our own poems which use the same features as ‘fruits’!
Our favourite verse is:
“One guinep up in the tree
Hanging down there tempting me
It don’ mek no sense to pick it,
One guinep can’t feed a cricket.”
What do you think it means?
